What is POP?
The Power of Prevention (POP) is a three tiered awareness campaign developed by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and the American College of Endocrinology (ACE). The mission of POP is to prevent endocrine diseases by generating awareness through the following methods: POP school visits (link to Teach POP), POP website, and preventative publications (link to buy guide).

Who can teach POP?
POP school visits can be instructed by school teachers, parents, AACE members, AACE spouses, nurses, nutritionists, dieticians, and any affiliated volunteer. If you are interested in conducting POP presentations in your local school or community, please visit the “Teach POP” (link) page of the POP website and find out how to get started.

How do I get started?
To start implementing POP into your classroom, go to the “Teach POP” (link) section of the POP website. Here you can download all the POP materials including the Five Day Lesson Plan, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and order pedometers and “Rx for Physical Activity” cards. You can also invite an AACE endocrinologist to visit your classroom. Simply include the Five Day Lesson Plan into your current curriculum and begin Day One with the POP presentation using the Physical Activity + Sound Nutrition = Good Health PowerPoint.

How can I request an endocrinologist?
Go to the “Teach POP” (link) section of the POP website and click on the “Invite a Doctor” (link) tab in the green sub navigation bar. Fill out the form provided and we will receive your request. The AACE staff will contact AACE members in your area and provide you with a response.

What is an Endocrinologist?
An endocrinologist is a physician or medical scientist who researches and treats patients with diseases relating to the endocrine system, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, obesity, and conditions related to the numerous glands and hormones in the body including the reproductive system.

How do I order pedometers and “Rx for Physical Activity” cards?
To order pedometers and “Rx for Physical Activity” cards for your POP presentation or event, please fill out our online order form by clicking here. Please allow 15-20 days for delivery of supplies.

How do I sign-up with POP to take the President’s Challenge?
If you have participated in the POP program or a POP school visit presentation, you can take the President’s Challenge (link to POP President’s Challenge Page) as a POP participant and receive your President’s Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) certificate and emblem FREE.

To sign-up go to the President’s Challenge section of the POP Website. Sign-up on this page to take the President’s Challenge and be sure to update your activity log with your daily activities. Once you have completed the President’s Challenge order your award from the President’s Challenge page on the POP website and click “Order your award” (link to the President’s Challenge page on POP website).

How do I receive my President’s Challenge Certificate and Emblem?
To order your President’s Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) Certificate and Emblem, visit the “President’s Challenge” section of the POP website. On this page, click “Order of your award” Fill out the form and submit. Please note that your request will be processed upon your completion of the President’s Challenge.

What is AACE?
The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) is a national, professional medical organization with more than 6,000 members throughout the United States and 84 foreign countries. Founded in 1991, AACE is an association of clinical endocrinologists, physicians whose advanced, specialized training enables them to be experts in the care of endocrine disease, such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, growth hormone deficiency, osteoporosis, cholesterol disorders, hypertension, and obesity. What is ACE?
The American College of Endocrinology (ACE) is the education component of AACE. The mission of ACE is to provide and promote education, research, and communication in the art and science of clinical endocrinology and to provide appropriate recognition of advances and achievements relating to clinical endocrinology. Endocrinologists have specialized training and expertise in the treatment of endocrine disorders including diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, hyperlipidemia and nutrition.
