The Power of Prevention is a fun and exciting way to teach children about health and physical fitness and meet state educational standards. Recognizing the need to stop the obesity epidemic in America, the American College of Endocrinology (ACE) developed the Power of Prevention (POP) school health initiative to encourage youth to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle. This program was delivered to more than 32,000 middle school students throughout the U.S. last year by AACE endocrinologists and affiliated volunteers. The following steps are the best way to bring the “power of prevention” to your classroom:

  1. Download Teach POP materials
  2. Request an AACE member to visit your classroom and give the POP presentation.
  3. Order POP pedometers and “Rx for Physical Activity” cards.
  4. Review presentation checklist.
  5. Have students take POP pretest.
  6. AACE member or teacher conduct POP PowerPoint presentation, followed by:
    1. Walking event on playground or track, etc.
    2. In-place exercises and stretching.
  7. Incorporate POP Five Day Lesson Plan into current classroom/program curriculum.
  8. Conduct POP posttest.
  9. Take the President’s Challenge Sign-up students for the President’s Challenge through the POP website and POP will pay for their certificates and emblems upon completion of the President’s Challenge.
  10. Send in evaluation forms and submit your POP success story to the POP website. We would love to hear form you!

The best part about this presentation is that it is offered to you at no cost, because AACE understands the importance of implementing Wellness Policies into the school system. Please contact Lauren Corley at lcorley@aace.com or (904) 353-7878, ext. 136 with questions and concerns.  Thank you for your interest in this program. We look forward to receiving your feedback.
